Celebrated in Japan, Issei Suda's work still remains relatively unknown in Europe, despite his immense talent and the prolific work he left behind after his death. Collaborator of Shuji Terayama and photographer of his theatre company, Suda found in photography a way to document the ordinary all while revealing the extraordinary and is known for the technical perfection of his black and white prints as well as his unique and surreal visual style. Celebrations or crowded streets of Tokyo, the photographer managed to transform reality into magic with each image.
Published by FW as part of the FOMU exhibition, Issei Suda - My Japan is an introduction to his life's work from the 1960s until the publication of his last book in 2018. It includes rarely seen photographs from his early days as a stage photographer for the avant-garde theater group Tenjo Sajiki, and iconic series, such as Fushi Kaden and Waga Tokyo 100, with a text by Frits Gierstberg.

Pick up
The free pick up of your order at the bookstore is available upon presentation of an identity document. Any order not collected from the shop within one month of payment will be automatically refunded.
Shipping fees
Shipping costs are calculated based on the chosen carrier, the weight and the delivery address of your package. Once your order is in your cart, you can have an estimate of the shipping costs offered by each transport service.
Return
Retraction possible within 7 days from receiving the order. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Returned books must be in perfect condition. The bookstore reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of the books if this shouldn't be the case.
