La Soufrière raconte la poignante réunion entre un père et son fils après 25 ans de séparation. Le photographe suédois Kristian Krän se rend sur l'île de la Guadeloupe, dans les Caraïbes, pour y retrouver son père, Arthur — un moment qui s'avère être leur première et leur dernière rencontre. Arthur avait quitté la famille lorsque Kristian n'avait que deux ans. Ce n'est que des années plus tard que Kristian a appris l'existence de son père et sa longue maladie mentale.
Pour le rencontrer et tenter de le comprendre, Kristian se rend à Basse-Terre, la capitale de la Guadeloupe, une ville tranquille dont la population ne cesse de diminuer pour atteindre aujourd'hui environ 10 000 habitants. Au cours d'une semaine, ils explorent l'île ensemble, visitant les lieux que Arthur souhaite montrer à Kristian. La communication est difficile, car Kristian ne maîtrise pas très bien le créole français guadeloupéen. Ils passent donc beaucoup de temps à se rapprocher grâce à la musique. L'appareil photo de Kristian devient un pont essentiel entre eux, servant à la fois de lien et de source de réconfort.
Un jour, ils ont gravi le volcan La Grande Soufrière. Arthur, vêtu d'un blazer et de tongs, disparaissait et réapparaissait sans cesse dans la brume. Le volcan, lieu de certains de leurs souvenirs les plus précieux, a inspiré le titre du livre. Le mot « soufrière » vient du mot français « soufre », qui signifie soufre ou sulfuriser — une sorte de condamnation sulfureuse. Phonétiquement, il se rapproche du verbe « souffrir », qui signifie « endurer ».

Pick up
The free pick up of your order at the bookstore is available upon presentation of an identity document. Any order not collected from the shop within one month of payment will be automatically refunded.
Shipping fees
Shipping costs are calculated based on the chosen carrier, the weight and the delivery address of your package. Once your order is in your cart, you can have an estimate of the shipping costs offered by each transport service.
Return
Retraction possible within 7 days from receiving the order. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Returned books must be in perfect condition. The bookstore reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of the books if this shouldn't be the case.
