À 17 ans, Mike Brodie saute dans son premier train près de chez lui, à Pensacola, en Floride, pensant rendre visite à un ami à Mobile, en Alabama. Mais le train part dans la direction opposée et l’emmène jusqu’à Jacksonville, en Floride. Quelques jours plus tard, il prend le même train pour rentrer, revenant exactement là d’où il était parti.
Ce voyage imprévu déclenche pourtant quelque chose en lui. Il commence alors à parcourir les États-Unis par tous les moyens gratuits : à pied, en auto-stop ou en sautant dans les trains de marchandises. Peu après le début de ses errances, il trouve un appareil photo coincé derrière un siège de voiture, et commence à photographier. Pendant des années, Brodie sillonne ainsi le pays, documentant ses expériences dans ce qui est aujourd’hui considéré comme l’un des corpus les plus marquants de la photographie de voyage américaine.
A Period of Juvenile Prosperity a été désignée meilleure exposition de l’année par Vince Aletti dans Artforum, et classée parmi les meilleurs livres photo de 2013 par The Guardian, The New York Times, The Telegraph et American Photo. L’ouvrage a également été finaliste du prix Paris Photo/Aperture Foundation First PhotoBook Award.

The average times indicated do not constitute a strict deadline. LE BAL Books cannot be held responsible in the event of a late delivery.
If all of the books ordered are not in stock at the bookstore and you wish to receive the first part of your order, a delivery in two times is possible.

Pick up
The free pick up of your order at the bookstore is available upon presentation of an identity document. Any order not collected from the shop within one month of payment will be automatically refunded.
Shipping fees
Shipping costs are calculated based on the chosen carrier, the weight and the delivery address of your package. Once your order is in your cart, you can have an estimate of the shipping costs offered by each transport service.
Return
Retraction possible within 7 days from receiving the order. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. Returned books must be in perfect condition. The bookstore reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of the books if this shouldn't be the case.
