Due however to Meyer's dedication of the volume to Lazaro Cardenas, the socialist-leaning former president who established Pemex in 1938 as part of his nationalization of Mexican oil production (whose son also happened to be an opposition candidate to then-current president Carlos Salinas earlier in the year), the newly elected government seized nearly all the copies printed to put a stop to the book's distribution.
