"Les Carnets du BAL" 's collection aims to explore the stakes of the contemporary image and to apprehend the notion of visual "document" in all its diversity. Each subject is addressed through theoretical contributions, presentations and analyses of works by renowned artists, philosophers, historians, anthropologists and critics, based on examples chosen from the fields of photography, video and cinema.
How can an image become a part of us, provoke us, shake us and transform us? This 8th issue of "Les Carnets du Bal" evokes several ideas about the power of images on us: All images we have access to provoke a modification on our perceptions and change the order of things. « Every image at every turn forces you to rethink the whole universe » said Aragon. Then it is the intimate, the imaginary, the personal history that is enriched and built through it: a traumatic image, a primitive scene, a sentimental and irrational attachment, so many ruptures that make us. Editorial director : Bertrand Schefer.
Les Carnets du BAL #7 is based on the seminar entitled "L'image, événement intérieur" which, at the initiative of the BAL, was held on October 20 and 21, 2016 at the EHESS, in Paris.
