El jardin de senderos que se bifurcan

Artist: Tarrah Krajnak

Named after a Borges stroy by the same title, El Jardín de Senderos Que Se Bifurcan explores the process of tracing the origins of the artist Tarrah Krajnak through various family narratives collected. Indigenious to Peru and orphaned as an infant, Tarrah Krajnak was adopted into an American working class transracial family and raised as a twin to my African American brother. This early experience of racial difference established an ongoing preoccupation for the artist questioning as to identity, ancestors, origins.

In this project, Tarrah Krajnak seeks to construct multiple history, imagine lineages, hypothesize relatives, and resurrect ancestors in order to also understand her place in the larger political, social, and historical narratives of her birthplace, Lima. in Peru, circa 1979.

The work itself moves between found vernacular photographs, her own original writing and photography, and appropriated images taken from 1979 political magazines that she collected in Lima, Peru.
